A Little History
When I first posted up some pictures from our annual Chinese New Year famiy shots from 1974, we got to wondering about all those old 35mm slides and 8mm projector films that were so popular in the day. After finally persuading my folks to send them over to me, I zipped over to eBay and bought myself an Epson Perfection 4870 PHOTO scanner that scans slides pretty well. Then it was the purchase of an old BELL & HOWELL 600PS Super 8mm Sound Film Projector that was in pristine condition with every original part intact, including manuals.
Since it’s impossible to simply connect some wires to transfer the video over, I had to rely on either a telecine transfer or the old project-it-on-the-wall-and-film-it-with-a-digital-video-recorder method. I settled for the latter but with a REAL projector screen. Anyway, the results came out pretty decent and I saved a couple of hundred bucks. One thing I’ll probably work on when I cash in on some time will be to sync the frame rates between the projector and the digital video recorder. That’ll at least get rid of the annoying flickering that occurs if the timing’s off by just a little. Add maybe add a version with some music from that year perhaps.
So enough typing already. Enjoy.
